Principal’s Message June 2015

Dear Parents,

Well here we are in June and another amazing school year at Meadowlark Christian is soon drawing to a close! Our mission at Meadowlark Christian School is to be a caring community committed to developing excellence in: Learning through academics, Living in Christ, Leading by serving others and Loving with strength of character. During my time here as school principal: I have learned many things about myself and others, I live and grow in my faith each day, I try my utmost to lead and serve the students, staff and community of MCS and I have loved becoming a part of this very special learning community!

It is with very mixed emotions that I find myself moving on to a new challenge next year as principal at Edmonton Christian West Campus. The welcome, support, relationships and experiences resulting from my time at Meadowlark Christian will stay with me forever and I count my time here as the highlight of my teaching career. The students, staff, parent community and MCS Foundation members have each played a role in this and I know that the incoming principal, Mrs. Judy Krahn, is blessed to be joining this school community.

Please refer to the calendar in this newsletter or check the upcoming events calendar on our school website or in SchoolZone for the dates and times of the grade 6 and 9 Provincial Achievement Tests (PAT’s). For junior high students/parents, a schedule of tutorial sessions in preparation for final exams in the week of June 22-26 has also been posted to SchoolZone.

Here are some tips to help your child achieve their learning potential in testing situations:

• Know the schedule of testing dates and plan in advance a review/study schedule.
• Minimize distractions and study in a quiet, comfortable environment.
• Encourage your child to exercise regularly, eat properly and get plenty of sleep, healthy bodies = healthy minds.
• Reflect on what the teacher has stressed in class, look over your past assignments, quizzes and tests. What parts did you do well on? Are there areas/concepts you should be focusing on?
• Go for extra help and attend any tutorial sessions that are offered by your teachers.
• Look over the exam before starting to answer questions to plan time accordingly, complete the questions you know first, then go back to work on the harder questions.
• Celebrate growth and accomplishments, praise your children for their efforts and a job well done, as each of our students has so much to be proud of!
