Principal’s Message February 2014

Dear Parents,

February has arrived and has brought winter weather with it! As I write this message we have just finished an indoor recess due to a wind chill of -27. As a lifelong Albertan, I think this is the first time in my life where I have wished for January weather!

In February we have a designated holiday to celebrate family, which this year will fall on Monday February 17th. Family should be celebrated throughout the year, but I will never begrudge anyone a long-weekend.

Many people in our Canadian “family” are looking forward to the upcoming Sochi Olympics and I am sure we will have many special moments to savour and remember, provided by dedicated and talented Canadian athletes. I still see a picture of Sidney Crosby jumping in the air, celebrating the gold medal winning goal in 2010, whenever I pass Mr. Regehr’s office. On Friday February 7, we will support our Canadian “family” of athletes with a “Proud to be Canadian” theme day. Come to school wearing red & white!

February is also when the MCS “family” joins together to raise funds for Compassion Canada. Each division at Meadowlark Christian currently sponsors a child, further enhancing our commitment to be a caring community through Learning, Living, Leading and Loving. We serve Jesus when we serve others and our support of members of our world “family” helps our students gain an understanding of the importance of giving and the joy resulting from helping others. Our K-3 students sponsor a child in Indonesia, our 4-6 students sponsor a child in Peru, and the 7-9’s support a child in Ethiopia.

The MCS “family” of students and staff greatly appreciate and value the ongoing support and prayers provided by parents, alumni, MCS Foundation members and our community. Have a great February! Enjoy the Family Day long weekend and the time it gives us to celebrate family.
