April is an important month for us here at Meadowlark Christian School.
Students and teachers are busy gearing up for the home stretch in their
school year.

At the administrative level we are very focused on planning for next years
school organization. This includes looking at how students will be grouped,
scheduling, staffing etc. This process has been underway for quite some
time and student enrollment passports were distributed to students during
the second week of March. Once they are returned to us (by April 16th ) we
will have a clearer picture of actual numbers for the fall and will be in a better
position to make some critical decisions.

This year is rapidly winding down, but planning for next year is in high gear.
As we plan for an organizational structure, our first priority is to utilize our
allocated resources in ways that will place the learning needs of our students
first. Decisions regarding student groupings and teaching assignments will
all be made with the intent of “cranking it up a notch”. By that phrase I am
referring to the fact that Meadowlark Christian School students currently
receive excellent instruction, but we are always striving to be better and to
be more responsive to student needs.

Even though February has past and the kindness occasions are behind us, I can assure you that caring and kindness will still remain a focus at Meadowlark Christian School. I am proud to work with the staff and students at Meadowlark Christian School and see acts of compassion and kindness on a daily basis. I also appreciate the many acts of kindness that the parents of the school community regularly offer.

The kindness and caring that I am referring to is not of the Hallmark card variety. It is about listening to a despondent child who is struggling with peer or family issues. It’s about a grade six student helping a kindergarten student who is just beginning to read. It is about volunteering countless hours to a school activity that may be the bright spot in life for a young person. It is about coming into the school and helping your child’s classroom teacher. It is about serving on school council or other parent groups and giving up hours of your personal time. It’s about a teacher staying late, or giving up their personal lunch time to help students who are having difficulty with their academics. It’s about volunteering to coach an athletic team even though the teaching workload is weighing you down. It’s about spending countless hours to plan a mission’s trip so that students can be blessed to serve others in a foreign country. I could go on and on, but the most important idea that must not be forgotten is that on a daily basis, acts of compassion are occurring within the walls of MCS.

We all know that Maya Angelou was correct when she said, “If you find it in your heart to care for somebody else, you will have succeeded.” Working together and supporting each other is an ideal vehicle for moving toward our goal of helping all students succeed in their educational program.
